Acerca de esta escucha
After the sudden death of her boyfriend, Vera would have been happy to spend the rest of her days curiously unnoticeable, washing bed sheets and cleaning toilets in present day Glastonbury. But when the strange new guest at her hotel reveals himself to be Merlin and drags her back to seventh century Camelot, a place she knows only from legends, only Vera (or Queen Guinevere as Merlin calls her) can right the course of history and save Arthur's kingdom from the will of a power-hungry mage. There's one enormous problem: Guinevere was the sole witness to the curse that's now draining the kingdom of its magic, and Vera doesn't remember anything of her supposed life as Queen Guinevere.

"Debut author Lafferty successfully weaves together multiple genres in this story of King Arthur’s time as seen through the eyes of a modern-day Guinevere. Like Vera, the reader does not have to be an expert on Arthurian legend to follow the story. The fresh takes on legendary characters and propulsive plot twists make this a page-turner that will leave readers hoping for a sequel. An original and fascinating take on the romance of Arthur and Guinevere. (historical fiction, romance, time travel)"

From midwifing new lambs to harvesting basil, Jessica Gigot invites the listener into her life on a small farm and the uncommon road that led her there. Fascinated by farming and the burgeoning local food movement, she spent her twenties wandering the Pacific Northwest, interning at small farms and doing graduate work in horticulture, always with an eye towards learning as much as she could about how and why people farm.

Historia
An approachable craft talk, written and read by Julia Whelan. Combining her perspectives as a writer, an educator, and a narrator, she breaks down what makes books connect with readers. Using Simon Sinek's seminal TedTalk for the business community, "Knowing Your Why", as a starting point, Julia applies this to the broader craft of storytelling: If you know why you are writing something, your audience will know why they're reading it. So... how does one do that?

I waited and watched Paula's videos on Instagram while she got her Kickstarter going to self publish. I anxiously awaited the announcement that Julia was going to be reading the audio, and was so SO sad when I found it would only be available on audiobrary and required a different subscription (but also good for them both because what a great idea!). I have an audible subscription, and when Paula posted it would be releasing I immediately got it. I sometimes sprint to finish, but I loved that this was longer and I took time to let pieces sink in as I tried to piece things together.
slight spoiler ahead:
I loved Vera's story, and I enjoyed the retelling my the legend of King Arthur. Gawain is my absolute favorite-- his comedic relief (as well as Lancelot's) is on point every time. The relationship with Lancelot and Vera is way better than I ever could have imagined. And Arthur? Well, he's not JAMMF, but he is on his way to being a king of men. My heart broke for Vera a few times, but particularly with the Memory of Vincent. I was CRUSHED and balled my eyes out. that part took me a bit to get over to keep reading. I knew I'd come back, but I needed time to grieve I think for Vera and her circumstance. There were moments when I just yelled "COME ON" because I just wanted her to get a break. In the end, it was all worth it.
The ending took me by surprise a bit, and I loved the twist! Paula, I cannot wait for book 2!
Favorite Retelling of the Arthurian Legend!
