But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life (John 4:14). The Jesus kind of water is for free. It refreshes and gives the life of God. It works effectively from within. Jesus Christ said that it becomes a fresh, bubbling spring within, giving eternal life. Fresh implies the newness living water brings. It changes someone’s nature of thirst or restlessness. Thirst is part of the definition of abject poverty. It has to do with lack. It’s a result of the curse of the Torah. Living water has the power to break and block the power of the curse! It displaces lack and completely eradicates it. It flows in abundance beyond measure or imagination. It has everything that mankind lacks as a result of sin. It gives peace like a river, joy like the warmth of a fire and every other blessing as the floodgates of Heaven open up. Surely Jesus is your Shepherd, you shall not lack anything. According to Romans 6:23, eternal life is a gift. A gift is for free. Once again the Greek word for eternal life is zoe which means the life God has, or the God kind of life, or simply, the life of God. It is the abundant life Jesus talked about in John 10:10. It’s the same life mentioned in John 3:16 where it says that those who believe in Jesus will have eternal life. It’s also mentioned in John 8:12 that whoever follows Jesus Christ will have the light of life. Jesus also says in John 14:6 that He is the life. In John 1:4 it is mentioned that the Word gives life. In John 6:35 Jesus said that He is the bread of life. In John 6:63 Jesus said that the words that He spoke are Spirit and life. The living water is a source of zoe. It’s given free of charge. All it needs is a recipient. It doesn’t have other perquisites. Even that Samaritan woman could have it as well. It’s not for the perfect or those who meet the requirements. It’s not for the clean. Living water is for the undeserving such as the adulterous foreign woman. It is for the ignorant and the lost. It is for the thugs and the addicts. It is for the ones who have failed and are hopeless. It is for the weak and incapacitated. It is for those on the down low dirty shame. It cleanses and revives them. It removes the stony and stubborn heart and replaces it with a soft and yielding one. It changes the destiny of the lost. It gives a new identity in Christ. It gives power and authority. It gives new values and new dimensions. It gives you God’s sharpness in perspective. You begin to see everything from His perspective. It enables you to be a victor. It causes you to be a brand new creature.
