Resumen del Editor

A Reese Witherspoon x Hello Sunshine Book Club Pick

FORECAST: Storm clouds are on the horizon in L.A. Weather, a fun, fast-paced novel of a Mexican-American family from the author of the #1 Los Angeles Times bestseller Esperanza’s Box of Saints

L.A. is parched, dry as a bone, and all Oscar, the weather-obsessed patriarch of the Alvarado family, desperately wants is a little rain. He’s harboring a costly secret that distracts him from everything else. His wife, Keila, desperate for a life with a little more intimacy and a little less Weather Channel, feels she has no choice but to end their marriage. Their three daughters - Claudia, a television chef with a hard-hearted attitude; Olivia, a successful architect who suffers from gentrification guilt; and Patricia, a social media wizard who has an uncanny knack for connecting with audiences but not with her lovers - are blindsided and left questioning everything they know. Each will have to take a critical look at her own relationships and make some tough decisions along the way.

With quick-wit and humor, Maria Amparo Escandón follows the Alvarado family as they wrestle with impending evacuations, secrets, deception, and betrayal, and their toughest decision yet: whether to stick together or burn it all down.

Fascinating!

I loved her first book and was excited for this one. It does not disappoint. Complex family, a new (for me) peek inside Mexican American Angelenos. Wish a cookbook came with it! The food sounded amazing! I do have to say, I would like to send the reader, the director, and editors a box full of the letter “T” because if there is one in the middle of a word it it has vanished ! Important becomes ‘I’m-por-ant”, cotton becomes “codan’, drove me batty!! Super annoying and no cultural reason for it, the reader does it no matter who is speaking and for all of the narration. Loved the book though!

A light read

Not the most well written book, a little contrived. But if you’re looking for a light no- brainer, this might be your book.

Very good story, but…

I enjoyed the story very much but for me when a story goes to saving the environment and buying solar farms to save the world, a story feels a little preachy to me. And so turned me off a little bit. That’s just me.

Gets Political and ruins the book

I was really happy with this book it was a great family story. Struggles, love, confidence issues. Then I got to Chapter 12 and it went political and it was uncalled for and not needed to carry the plotline. This book would if been so much better if they took out all the unnecessary political BS. If I wanted a political book I would have picked up one and if this was a book advertised as a political story I would have skipped it because the political writing was terrible.

Family Drama

This book, set in 2016, is about family, and how hard it is to keep things together.

A lot of this story made me think of a soap opera, just not as dramatic. The family struggles to keep from falling apart during LA's worst drought to date. People lied, people were selfish, and communication was constantly ignored.

While the wild fires grew close, so did the ultimate struggles they had been keeping from each other.

This was definitely not my type of book as it is 90% character driven, but the writing is beautiful and still managed to keep my attention.

For the story, it's a 3⭐, since it's not my cup of tea, but the delivery of this story is 4.5⭐. Beautifully done.

😏

I get this book was about happening with a family but I’m really not sure what this book was about. For me there is no point to this book. It’s a bunch of things that don’t really mean anything. Things happening in LA which I don’t necessarily agree with. Would not recommend it because it’s meh

Engrossing

The story is capturing from the beginning. I quickly become invested in the character’s and their journey. When the story was down I felt sad to leave the Alvarado family.

Waiting for the sequel

Love the characters, story and narration. The story was sweet and soulful. And the words brought the family and LA to life. Can’t wait for the next installment. I’m invested in these people!!!
