A fresh and darkly funny 90s murder mystery about one high school's net of lies that begin to unravel when a star lacrosse player winds up dead.

The night before graduation, all of Hancock High celebrates at their school’s annual lock-in. But what starts out as a fun night turns horribly wrong when a body is found—and the victim is none other than Troy Richards, the school’s star lacrosse player.

Everyone is acting totally clueless. As for suspects? There’s Jennifer (the dream girl), Naomi (the geek), Sassi (the overachiever), and Tatum (the rebel). At a glance, it seems like they couldn’t be more unalike, except for the fact that they all hated Troy (the lax bro) . . . but who wanted him dead?

From debut author Charlotte Lillie Balogh comes a wickedly sharp take on high school stereotypes, including the boys we love and love to hate: lax bros.

Reseñas de la Crítica

“Charlotte Lillie Balogh’s debut is utterly impossible to put down (no, really—I tore through it in twenty-four hours). The book’s expertly constructed plot is made even more propulsive by the use of six different narrators, each harboring their own secrets. And I still get goose bumps thinking about how it all ends.” —Jordyn Taylor, USA Today bestselling author of Wicked Darlings and The Revenge Game

“Reading this was like inhaling a Pixy Stix only to find out it might be laced with poison. Kill the Lax Bro is full of girls and boys alike thirsty for the hottest lax bro in school—thirsty for his murder, that is. A compulsive, whip-smart read from a talented new voice in YA. The twists at the end had me in a chokehold.” —Trish Lundy, author of The One That Got Away with Murder

Twisty, hilarious, and lethal, Charlotte Lillie Balogh’s young adult debut is a perfect blend of your favorite ’90s teen movie antics and modern-day murder mysteries, leaving you on the edge of your seat—and dying to know who done it in this dark comedy!” —Matthew Hubbard, critically acclaimed author of The Rebel’s Guide to Pride

“Nostalgic ’90s vibes mash with a punchy multi-POV narrative to create a thrilling mystery that’s impossible to put down. Kill the Lax Bro is the ultimate get-back-at-your-ex book—whether the ex is a boyfriend, best friend, or otherwise—and follows an unlikely yet endearing crew bent on serving up karma. Balogh’s debut is a reading rush you won’t want to miss.” —Mackenzie Reed, author of The Rosewood Hunt and The Wilde Trials

"[A] love letter to the 1990s wrapped in a psychologically twisted whodunit....Fans of Karen M. McManus or Diana Urban will devour this book." —Booklist

"Readers who enjoy twisty murder mysteries with multiple narrators will want to scoop this one up." —School Library Journal

"Blends ’90s nostalgia and high school drama with murder to create a surprising story that bounces between two timelines. With distinct, witty characters and complex motivations, fans of ’90s teen movies won’t be able to get enough!" —Megan Davidhizar, author of Silent Sister

"A standout debut that really scores! Steamy romance, high school hijinks, ’90s nostalgia, and a whodunit murder mystery that had me hooked from page one. I never wanted it to end!" —Sara Phoebe Miller, author of You Belong Here

Dear Listener,

What inspired me to set this story in the ‘90s?
"As a ‘90s kid, the era lives rent-free in my head! The music, the movies, the Lisa Frank patterns, the jellies, the denim—so, so much denim! The time period was an instinctual choice for Kill the Lax Bro. Beyond the juicy nostalgia, however, the setting also made sense for a murder mystery. With no smartphones or social media, we meet our main characters locked inside their high school the night before graduation—and when a body is found in the yearbook office, there’s no easy way to escape. This story is my twisted homage to the 1990s, which allowed me to lean into the timeless archetypes—the dream girl, the geek, the rebel, the overachiever, and of course, the lax bro—and turn them inside out and glittery."– Charlotte Barlogh, writer of Kill the Lax Bro

I thoroughly enjoyed re-living each chapter title, and connecting to the characters via the ephemera of the time. Trying to suss out the innocent and guilty is a real challenge throughout the book. Thank you for the story.
