Kate Burns has lived under her parents’ tight grip for many years. When she finally decides to break free, she heads for Maine to her friend Molly’s house. When her journey takes a different path than she had planned, she finds job and new friends who rent her their grandmother's empty house.. She soon learns that she is sharing it with two spirits who are somewhat ornery, but very helpful in trying to resolve the mysteries of the house and eventually her own life.
