What can we learn from the Judges and Kings of ancient Israel? The book of Judges in the Bible demonstrates the depravity of human-kind. There are 12 judges listed in this book. There were cycles of disobedience, judgment, deliverance, and peace that repeated itself. There were 42 Kings of Israel and Judah. The undivided kingdom of Israel had three kings: Saul, David, Solomon. Saul was a bad King. David was a good King. Solomon started out as a good King and was led into idolatry by his 700 wives and 300 concubines. He became a bad King. God divided the kingdom because of Solomon’s idolatry. The northern kingdom was called Israel. The southern kingdom was called Judah. The northern kingdom of Israel had 19 kings, and the southern kingdom of Judah had 20 Kings (one was a “ruling” evil Queen, Athaliah).We can learn much from the Judges and Kings of ancient Israel. Those who cannot learn from history are doomed to repeat it (George Santayana).This book is about the lessons we can learn from ancient Israel, so that we don’t repeat the same mistakes.
