Cataracts and posterior vitreous detachment are common occurrences. The majority of people will experience one or the other during their lifetime if they live to the median lifetime expectancy of a human. These are generally nothing to be alarmed about. Your optometrist and ophthalmologist will assist you in your journey to caring for each of these if they happen during your lifetime. Some people may feel trepidation about the experience of undergoing surgeries to address these situations.
As I was telling my friends about my experience, they commented that the stories were interesting and might merit writing about, for the benefit of others who may go through the same process. Here I share my personal adventures through a years-long process of getting glasses, cataract removal and dealing with a rare complication to my PVD (posterior vitreous detachment) called retina detachment. I hope this voyage helps to give you comfort about these medical procedures and helps you on your process of preparing for them.
