By age 25, Heather Anderson had hiked what is known as the "Triple Crown" of backpacking: the Appalachian Trail, Pacific Crest Trail, and Continental Divide Trail - a combined distance of 7,900 miles with a vertical gain of more than one million feet. A few years later, she left her job, her marriage, and a dissatisfied life and walked back into those mountains. In her new memoir, Heather shares her distinct message of courage - her willingness to turn away from the predictability of a more traditional life in an effort to seek out what most fulfills her.

I loved it
I love the comradery, perseverance and that they still keep in touch. One day I’ll hike one of the three main trails, until then I’ll keep listening to audio books to keep the fire burning

A bit different
it took me a moment to get over what I expected the book to be and fell in love with what the book actually is.
Like a hiker, it moves slow but plows ahead without a glitch.

Enthralled by story, irritated by editing
Hard to put down, such engaging stories about the journey north on the PCT from a great variety of experiences. Hard to put down and couldn't wait to see who made it and who didnt...any why. Some very painful moments, but one of the best books I've read about the PCT experience.
Downside was that throughout the book, it sounded as if they edited in small sections from a different reading...the sound and voice were off, as if recorded at a different time then cut in. Off putting, but the story was worth those irritations.

I enjoyed living vicariously through this story.
Overall, I really enjoyed this story and often imagined myself on the trail. Realistically, that won't happen, but I sure enjoyed it. I do believe a through hike is fully of misery and joy, equal parts. So fun getting to piggy back on Scout's experience.
