When the smoke of the Civil War cleared the once beautiful countryside, it left behind abandoned farmland, burnt down homes and a once peaceful thriving community. In 1861, Sara was seventeen when their father, John Ellery, rode off in the midst of the battle that encroached upon the lower fields of the family farm. He never returned. Left to guide her younger sisters Alison, Kate, Betsy and Penny, they became determined and resolute as they struggle with the vile wickedness of the deserters who stalked the weak and unprotected citizens looting and plundering both body and soul. While putting aside their gentle upbringing, the sisters stood together side by side through the war exacting revenge whenever they could. This story isn’t about the war or about their legendary escapades but it is about the five sisters as they move west in an attempt to put their past behind them.
