Private Detective Jobe Carson is minding his own business when he gets an urgent call from an old friend and comedy producer he used to work with back in the eighties. For some unknown reason comics are being found across the northwest, hung from motel room ceilings, the victims of either auto-erotic asphyxiation or murder. Jobe is hired to find the cause—but he is reluctant—his brief foray into stand-up comedy four decades ago left permanent emotional scars. The idea of going back out on the comedy circuit is terrifying.
Jobe crisscrosses Washington State and takes the stage from Woodland to Everett to Spokane, with a brief side trip to Coeur d’Alene, Idaho—stops on the circuit that stopped some comics permanently.
