Resumen del Editor

One of the most highly regarded works of intellectual history of the past decade, Jesus Through the Centuries is an original and compelling study of the impact of Jesus on cultural, political, social, and economic history. Noted historian and theologian Jaroslav Pelikan reveals how the image of Jesus created by each successive epoch - from rabbi in the first century to liberator in the 19th and 20th centuries - is a key to understanding the temper and values of that age. The book is published by Yale University Press.

Reseñas de la Crítica

"A rich and expansive description of Jesus' impact on the general history of culture... Believers and skeptics alike will find it a sweeping visual and conceptual panorama." (John Koenig, front page, New York Times Book Review)

Master Modulator

Nick Sullivan demonstrates masterful modulation and inflection on the academic terrain of Jaroslav Pelikan's precise syntax, thus making the exploration more accessible.

Brilliant journey in Christian cultural history

Pelikan's writing is erudite and charitable, and is reflected well by the narrator here. Each chapter has both a theme and a rough historical period, helping to make each stand out. The title really captures the essence of the book, and I highly recommend it as a prism through which to view the many (infinite, especially theologically) and legitimate aspects of Jesus Christ. Doubles as something of a miniature Church history and Western history as well.

Praise be to the Lord Jesus Christ.

It is a very good book carrying a good historical background. It helps the listener to understand intellectually the story of Jesus

Brilliant history of Christianity

Pelikan is very accessible in this book for the non-theologian, but remains quite thorough in examining history and ideas honestly and fairly. The early hints of his eventual conversion to the Orthodox church show up here, but he gives solid understanding of issues at various points in Church history.
The narration was clear and engaging.

WHAT????

This author must be so impressed with his vocabulary and education that he loves to show it off
by constructing the longest sentences in the world that say absolutely nothing. Now that takes
real talent. After reading this book I could not really tell what his stance is on religion. I was so
amazed that I would let some friend listen to exerts from the book to see what they thought and
the answer was always the same “WHAT?” The biggest waist of time for me and for the author
who must have spent hours and hours formulating this book so that you the reader would be as
confessed or more confessed after reading it then before. I give this book an F for failure.
