This is her very personal account of her experiences as she was taken from her home in Sighet, Romania to the death camps of the Nazi regime...Auschwitz, Birkenau, Geislingen, Dachau, and finally to liberation on the first of May in 1945. This is one of the first written accounts from a Holocaust survivor. This letter has been recorded by her son, David Speace, who is a producer/director/editor. He has recorded the audio in his studio and the professional narrator is actress Elizabeth Michaels.

In March 1942, 25-year-old kindergarten teacher Magda Hellinger and nearly a thousand other young women were deported as some of the first Jews to be sent to the Auschwitz concentration camp. The SS soon discovered that by putting prisoners in charge of the day-to-day accommodation blocks, they could deflect attention away from themselves. Magda was one such prisoner selected for leadership and put in charge of hundreds of women in the notorious Experimental Block 10. Filled with a sense of adventure and national pride, they left their parents' homes wearing their best clothes and confidently waving good-bye. Believing they were going to work in a factory for a few months, they were eager to report for government service. Instead, the young women - many of them teenagers - were sent to Auschwitz. Their government paid 500 Reich Marks (about $200) apiece for Nazis to take them as slave labor. Of those 999 innocent deportees, only a few survived.
