From the award-winning and critically acclaimed author of This Is My America comes another thriller about a wrongly accused teen desperate to recclaim both his innocence and his first love.

Life can change in an instant.

When you’re wrongfully accused of a crime.

When a virus shuts everything down.

When the girl you love moves on.

Andre Jackson is determined to reclaim his identity. But returning from juvie doesn’t feel like coming home. His Portland, Oregon, neighborhood is rapidly gentrifying, and COVID-19 shuts down school before he can return. And Andre’s suspicions about his arrest for a crime he didn’t commit even taint his friendships. It’s as if his whole life has been erased.

The one thing Andre is counting on is his relationship with the Whitaker kids—especially his longtime crush, Sierra. But Sierra’s brother Eric is missing, and the facts don’t add up as their adoptive parents fight to keep up the act that their racially diverse family is picture-perfect. If Andre can find Eric, he just might uncover the truth about his own arrest. But in a world where power is held by a few and Andre is nearly invisible, searching for the truth is a dangerous game.

Critically acclaimed author Kim Johnson delivers another social justice thriller that shines a light on being young and Black in America—perfect for fans of The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas and Dear Justyce by Nic Stone.

This story is an example of how the world was and still is today. The part about Andre’s Papa made me tear up. Other parts as well were heartfelt. Gave me flashbacks of what happened to a lot of our loved ones, including mine.

Great story line! Awesome performance!

As a young black male, who grew up with the wrong crowd, as a police officer, as someone who experienced the riots, lost family to COVID.. this book i can highly relate to in many ways. Love it

Many years ago I would read books to my daughter at bedtime. Fast forward to present day and now WE can read them together… our own private book club. This was our first book we tackled together. The interwoven themes made for an awesome read/listen. Indeed “the past is still with us”. Additionally, Andre’s playlist was a blast from the past and fun to share with my Gen Z’er.

An AMAZING book. My 12 year old enjoyed it so much, he said it should be a movie. Kept our attention the entire time.

This is what's going on in the world today and it's very sad. Everyone should be treated equally.

Today's society

The story is a multidimensional caption of life during the pandemic and a time of political unrest. A great book for bookclub conversation.

It is rare a book touches me emotionally on so many levels as this book. I sit in my cubicle as tears drop remembering the deaths during the pandemic. Then anger towards the ineffective social service and political systems. I am a single mother raising a black male so live in fear every day. I pray daily for America.

Invisible Man by Kim Johnson is a must read.

Highly recommend
