日本では710年に、現在の奈良県に平城京と呼ばれる都が造られました。
平城京が開かれた奈良時代は、日本が国家として歩み始めた（最初の対策を施し始めた）重要な時代です。
奈良には、東大寺や興福寺、薬師寺、唐招提寺など、「国を守る」とされた仏教の建物が多く建てられました。
