I recently finished Andrew Camp's book, Intrinsic Work, and it’s been a game-changer for me. As someone who has read a lot of productivity books, I was a bit skeptical, but this one is different. It’s not about quick hacks or a one-size-fits-all system. Instead, Camp provides a thoughtful framework for how to find more meaning in your work and truly get things done.
What I loved most were the practical, actionable insights. The book is structured around four key areas: time habits, setting goals, designing purposeful tasks, and building momentum. I found the section on designing purposeful tasks particularly helpful. It made me rethink my to-do list, shifting my focus from simply completing tasks to understanding the "why" behind each one. It's a small change in perspective that has had a huge impact on my motivation and focus.
The book is well-written and easy to read, with clear examples that make the concepts easy to grasp. My one minor critique is that some of the ideas might feel familiar if you're already well-versed in productivity literature. However, Camp's way of bringing these ideas together into a cohesive system is what makes the book so valuable.
I would highly recommend Intrinsic Work to anyone who feels like they’re just going through the motions at work. If you’re looking to get more out of your day-to-day tasks and find a deeper sense of purpose in what you do, this book is for you. It's not just about doing more; it's about doing better.
