Six months on the run. One chance at freedom. A vampire who can walk in daylight.

Jay Hurley is on the run from his vampire captor with nothing but a fake ID and three hundred dollars. Now he's tending bar at Nocturne, trying to rebuild a life from the shattered pieces of who he used to be.

The enigmatic club owner is everything Jay's captor wasn't: patient, protective, impossibly gentle. And despite being a vampire himself, Giulio possesses a rare mutation that lets him walk in sunlight, bridging the gap between human and monster.

As Jay learns to trust again, their careful friendship ignites into something neither expected. But the past isn't finished with Jay. His former master is coming to reclaim what he considers his property.

Now Giulio must risk everything—his territory, his life, his heart—to prove that some bonds are worth fighting for. And Jay must decide if he's brave enough to stand and fight, or if he'll spend the rest of his life running.

A contemporary MM vampire romance about reclaiming agency, choosing love over fear, and finding sanctuary in the most unexpected places.

Virtual voice is not pleasant.

The story was nice, despite trauma as an integral plot point.

How the ethical vampires feed, specifically the main character (who does not seem to feed at all) is mostly ignored, which is quite a feat for something set in a human / vampire bar.

Some large issues were not only raised, but highlighted repeatedly, then were left unaddressed. Possibly this is a case of ambience and background becoming as interesting as the main characters. Possibly the emphasized issues were left hanging for a sequel. It didn’t bother me too much. It was enough that I’m writing a review instead of basking in the HFN / HEA. I’m not saying this was a cliffhanger because it was not.

Another puzzler (fine, a pet peeve) was how anyone managed to survive with so few working on the Security staff.

IDC how tall your single member of security is, or how weirdly invasive your camera system is, even the supernatural need staff or helpful individuals who can be called upon.

My hackles probably wouldn’t have gone up if a few lines about other personnel and additional preparation were dropped in the right places. Anyone with some understanding of the security profession will need to dial up their suspension of belief to eleven.
