In Italy, the defeat of the infinitely small signaled an end to that land’s reign as the cultural heart of Europe, and in England, the triumph of infinitesimals helped launch the island nation on a course that would make it the world’s first modern state.

Great book on how infinitesimal struggled to exist.

Overall the audio was good. Infinitesimal is a great story that mixes math with history and informative in the great players of mathematics.

An Amazing Listen to intrigue and history. Highly recommended.

A fantastic review of political - mathematical - religious history. Presented so the layperson can understand and follow. The two concepts need to be clearly outlined or perhaps I need to review the text again.

Definitely worth listening to. The book brings sense to some of histories extreme views. It also provides understanding for the great advances in the scientific, political and religious areas.

Highly recommended.

Great History of Importance of Pluralism Seen Though Math

Great history of Europe during the seventeen century within the framework of the introduction of the infinitesimal e.g. the tool of calculus. The role mathematics played in the struggle between religions was fascinating.

Beautifully written. Intellectual history, political theory, religious history, philosophy of science and mathematics in transition from ancient to modern. Quite a story with great import to today’s world that didn’t have to turn out as it did. I thoroughly enjoyed it. Fortunately my Jesuit education came 300+ years later. Strangely they taught me calculus!
