The notion of legacy is often entwined with ideas of wealth or historical impact but truth be told, it is about how we live our lives today. To paraphrase Jean-Paul Sartre, a towering figure in existentialist philosophy, who provides a compelling perspective on legacy through his poignant observation in his play No Exit: “One always dies too soon or too late and yet their life is complete at that moment, with a line drawn neatly under it ready for the summing up.” You are your deeds in life and little more. This thought opens a unique avenue to explore the concept of legacy as a record of achievements and a testament to our actions and their alignment with our personal beliefs.

Every individual can impact others and contribute to the collective human experience. Take, for instance, a teacher whose dedication shapes the minds and attitudes of countless students or a volunteer who spends their weekends feeding the homeless. These actions might not garner global recognition, but they create profound ripples across society, much like a stone thrown into a calm lake creates a wide-spread ripple effect. This democratization of legacy emphasizes that the sum of one's life, the neat line under it, is drawn through everyday acts of authenticity and choice.
