Resumen del Editor

Biochemistry whiz Everly Jax wants one thing: to know who her parents are. Raised with other repo kids in InKubator 9, she has pinned her hopes on Reunion Day, the annual event where 16-year-olds can meet or reunite with their parents. When her Reunion Day goes horribly awry, she and her pregnant friend Halla escape the Kube, accompanied by their friend Wyck who has his own reasons for leaving.

In a world where rebuilding the population is critical to national survival, the Pragmatist government licenses all human reproduction, and decides who can - and must - have babies. The trio face feral dog packs, swamp threats, locust swarms, bounty hunters looking for "breeders", and more dangers as they race to Amerada's capital to find Halla's soldier boyfriend before the Prags can repo her baby and force the girls into surrogacy service.

An unexpected encounter with Bulrush, an Underground Railroad for women fleeing to Outposts with their unlicensed babies, puts them in greater peril than ever. Everly must decide what she is willing to sacrifice to learn her biological identity - and deal with the unanticipated consequences of her decisions.

LOVED THIS

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes! I love dystonia type novels and this was a fantastic read

Any additional comments?

I'm not gonna lie during the first chapter I did not think I would enjoy this book. I thought Evie Cameron spoke to fast to be honest so I didn't really pay much attention to the first chapter. BUT after chapter one and you really get to know the main character Everly it fits PERFECTLY. I do not know why at first I was turned off but it but I fell in love with the way Evie Cameron told this story.

This is set in a world where everything was wiped out by the bird flu and the world now called Amerada where Atlanta is the capitol. Our main character is on a quest to find her parents after a reunion day she looked forward to did not turn out as planned. She escapes InKubator 9 with her 2 best friends. One of which is pregnant from her boyfriend who is stationed in Atlanta. They journey across swamp and quicksand, escape crazy people wanting to sell breeders, and locust swarms. Then they meet a group of people that changes everything for them and what Everyly believes. Its so hard to truely review this book without giving everything away. You will be in for a wild ride! I can't recommend this enough. The ending was such a cliffhanger. I can't wait to read the next one to see what happens to the characters.
Also something I really enjoyed. All the biblical additions to the book and how alot of the organizations got there name which is expressed in this. Now if your not spiritual or anything like that don't let this turn you off from the book. It is a fantastic addition to how the storyline goes but doesn't make this a bible pushing story.

test

Would you listen to Incubation again? Why?

No, not the Incubation itself; because I don't have time to read the same book twice. But I'm looking forward to the next book in the series.

What aspect of Evie Cameron’s performance would you have changed?

Her narration is pretty flat, like reading an uninteresting book. I wish she had put more effort into it.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

"Government licenses all human reproduction, and decides who can - and must - have babies" - I was hooked by this line in the synopsis. The book starts slowly, picks up speed soon and keeps going at a fast pace. All the turns kept me interested and I did want to finish it in one sitting. Sadly had to finish it in two.

Any additional comments?

Yes, I would want my teenage daughter to read this

This book is a different take on dystopian tales and one that I really enjoyed. Everly Jaxx, is a strong, intelligent female lead which flows naturally and is not forced. Raised in a Kube, the only thing she wants is to know who her parents are. Escaping with Halla and Wyck who have problems/issues of their own, they narrowly escape death time and again which creates a thrilling adventure for readers. I was provided this audiobook in exchange for an honest review. I came to appreciate Evie Cameron's narration but honestly it took a large majority of the content before I did.

Great Story!

Great characters in a post apocalyptic world. Their story is interesting with lots of action and twists. I’m looking forward to the next one.

Allow time for Incubation

Where does Incubation rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

I've yet to listen to a bad book on audio, and I'm glad the streak continued with this book.

Who was your favorite character and why?

It's too hard for me to pick a favorite character in this book as the author did a phenomenal job of creating vivid, realistic characters. The only character I didn't like was Halla, and that was simply because of the multitude of baffling (albeit consistent with the character's traits) decision. There were multiple times I wanted to yell at her to pull her head out of a particular hole as she jeopardized the safety of characters I was growing attached to.

Which character – as performed by Evie Cameron – was your favorite?

Evie Cameron does a fairly straight read in this story so none of characters' voices stand out too much.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Besides my urge to yell at Halla, I wouldn't consider any of the emotions this book evoked from me to be extreme.

Any additional comments?

Give this book a chance! I was worried after the first few chapters that this was going to be just another generic post apocalyptic story. However, DiSilverio ended up crafting a remarkably unique tale that caught be by surprise. I'm eagerly looking forward to getting my hands on the next book in this series, and I recommend that you do the same!

Really good start to series

Any additional comments?

Really good start to a series. I was looking forward to this book and was not disappointed at all. The story starts off a little slow but within a few chapters it really takes off and is constantly moving with plenty of suspense, action and intrigue. It's a very entertaining and enjoyable solid story with enough twists to keep it interesting. By the time you get to the end you will want more. Unfortunately, the rest of the series is not on Audible yet. Hopefully soon.

Good cast of characters. You can't help but like and root for Everly, Wyck and Saben. Even though she is one of the main character's I just wanted to slap Halla upside the head. There's always one.

It's an interesting take on an apocalyptic world that has been changed by devastating bird flu that has wiped out most of the population, setting up the current world and circumstances in which the characters live. The government has control of every aspect of their lives. Especially the children. Not everyone believes in this system and there are resistance fighters (Defiance)trying to fight the governments control. Everything Everly, Wyck and Halla have been taught or believe is about to change.

It does end a cliffhanger so be warned.

Evie Cameron did a good job with the narration. Pleasant voice. Clearly spoken. The pace of the narration fit Everly's character. It is a bit fast at times but it works. There really isn't much difference in many of her character voices. Just a softer voice for the females and normal voice for the males. Halla is one voice that stands out though. She was able to bring the character's and story to life. While her narration was enjoyable this would have been a great story with dual narration.

Couldn't connect with characters

The book was well written, the story clear. I just couldn’t connect with the characters. I’m not sure if it was the author or the voice actor, but most of the characters felt generic, little detail given. The only emotional moment that I really felt was toward the end, when one main character dis-owned another. Beyond that, it hearkened to The Handmaid’s Tale in story, while feeling like any typical YA dystopia. More of an adventurous journey, there were no story elements or twists I did not see coming, few sci-fi/future elements that felt new or fresh.

One of my favorites this year

In this story Everly is a biochemist in futuristic America. She was dropped at the cube as a baby and hasn't a clue about her family. Her best friend turns up pregnant which is against the rules. In this futuristic world the cube takes and keeps the babies. They, along with Everly's friend Wick escape the cube and take off into the world.

The world building was awesome. A great combination of author imagination and reality. The setting is Jacksonvill FL to Atlanta GA. As a Jacksonville resident for 20 years I applaud the author with her realistic yet futuristic descriptions of the area. I even wonder if she's from the area.

Every page is filled with action. In this world she created the Pragmatists run the country after a horrible flu killed most the population. The worst problem now are horrible locusts who travel in huge hoards and gobble all the vegetation. That's why the dome was created. As a biochemist Everly is developing a virus to destroy the locusts until she gets side-tracked and escapes tge cube finding so much more about the world than she knew. It's worse than she thought and danger lurks everywhere.
