In the sleepy New England village of Summerton, four lives are quietly colliding with eternity.

Louise Clifton, the minister’s elegant, dissatisfied sister, thinks religion is for fanatics—until a train ride with a plain-spoken farmer cracks her heart wide open.

Ellen Amelia Haskins, the awkward girl everyone laughed at, inherits three thousand dollars and a calling she never expected.

Joseph Benedict, once the barefoot farm boy, discovers that the mission field is calling him—and perhaps calling him to someone he once wounded with careless words.

And Ruth Benedict, steady and quiet, watches her brothers leave the old farmhouse one by one, wondering what the Lord still has for a woman content to stay behind.

Through revival meetings, missionary conferences, clumsy proposals, and starlit confessions, grace keeps stepping in where human plans fail. In the end, every heart that is willing to stay “in the way” discovers that the Lord Himself delights to lead.

A tender, turn-of-the-century Christian romance restored from obscurity—sweet, funny, and deeply faith-filled. Perfect for fans of Grace Livingston Hill, Isabella Alden, and Janette Oke.

I love this book and have read it multiple times both as paperback and then on Kindle. So I decided to get this audio book.

I have no problems with the Virtual Voice. It sounds much more natural than Alexa reading to me, and there are far fewer errors in how words are pronounced for words that are spelled the same but should be said differently depending on context (bow - on a present vs bending for respect).

But I really hate how the annotations are integrated. These annotations are practically a summary of the chapter and come at the beginning of each chapter. This really breaks the flow of the story for me. If the story didn't have the annotations, I'd have given this 5 stars.

Don't love the annotations
