What if the love you were searching for… was always your own?

In this raw and luminous memoir, Heather Wild peels back the layers of codependency, heartbreak, single motherhood, and spiritual awakening to reveal what happens when a woman stops waiting to be chosen—and chooses herself instead.

Told with stunning vulnerability and poetic insight, I Was the One I Was Waiting For chronicles Heather’s real-life journey through a series of complex relationships—including trauma bonds, toxic patterns, and the false promises of romantic potential—ultimately leading to the reclamation of her self-worth, voice, and body.

From first love to failed marriage, soul friendships to seductive illusions, Heather invites listeners into the sacred and messy middle of healing. With themes of anxious attachment, grief, motherhood, embodiment, and personal rebirth, this book isn’t just a story—it’s a mirror. Narrated by the author herself, this audiobook delivers an intimate, heart-led listening experience—infused with warmth, honesty, and soul.

Includes an exclusive bonus: a 30-minute integrative embodiment practice—guided by Heather—to help you ground, reflect, and return to your own story through breath, stillness, and gentle somatic awareness.

For any woman who’s ever felt unseen, unheard, or unchosen… this is your invitation to remember who you are.

You were never too much. You were never too late. You are the one you’ve been waiting for.

What touched me most was how Heather reframed love.. not as something we must earn or chase, but as something we can cultivate within ourselves. Her vulnerability made me see that healing isn’t a straight path.. it’s messy, layered, and often asks us to let go of illusions we once clung to. Listening reminded me that choosing ourselves isn’t selfish, it’s the foundation for healing, strength, and truly meaningful relationships. It also made me reflect on how often we silence our own needs in the hope of being chosen, when in reality the most profound shift happens the moment we choose to see and honor ourselves first.

This is one of the few audiobooks I have listened to completely in one sitting. First off, the narration (which incidentally is done by the author herself) is brilliant – calm and serene while being expressive and profound.

I could feel the authenticity of this audiobook. The author laid out her life story for all to see. I love the rawness, the vulnerability, the fact that she is talking to real people who, perhaps have similar stories which they would never dream to share. This audiobook is inspiring, empowering and healing; one that will uplift many people who find themselves in, or evolving from codependent relationships.

Writing this memoir was deeply healing, but narrating it in my own voice was true integration. Speaking my story out loud allowed me to feel it in a new way, and listening back has become an anchor in my own healing journey.
I encourage you to take time with the guided integrative bonus meditation included, it’s a glimpse into my own creative process and an invitation for you to give voice to your own story. Thank you for witnessing me.

I picked up this audiobook on a whim, and it ended up being such a tender reminder that self-love can also be a journey of healing. The author’s voice is comforting, like a friend guiding you gently through tough reflections. Each chapter felt like a mirror pointing back at my own insecurities—and quietly encouraging me to reframe them. It’s introspective, kind, and leans into the truth that sometimes the person we’re waiting for is ourselves.

Such a good book to listen to. The author, who also is the narrator, has a wonderful insight to self-love, self-worth coupled with a great narrating voice. She's so open and vulnerable on lessons life taught her and articulated her thoughts and feelings so clearning, a skill I wish I was better at. I could see some of my life lessons mirror things she went through. But, the way she processed the situations with self love and approval, is where I learned a lot about how I can forgive and love myself for some the of the strange twists and turns of my life. This was an exceptionally good book, so interesting and so moving.

I melted into the narrator from the very first words. Her tone is empathetic, wise, and trustworthy. You'll appreciate the honesty and candor in how the author flips what many would drag themselves through as just another heartbreak into insightful, self-aware moments. These teach you much about who you really are, so you don't slide down the slippery slope of emotional misery and blame. Highly recommended.

I Was the One I Was Waiting For: has allowed Heather to move on. Listening to this audible,I could imagine each story being told and every story causing a change for the better. It seems sometimes the tragedies of our life have a tendency to make us stronger and make us change using the pain as a catalyst.Writing this book has created the healing process and the change in self-respect is evident. I think the book was well done and was happy to see the journey leading to a better life.

This audiobook feels deeply personal and heartfelt, like being invited into someone’s most honest reflections. The way Heather shares her journey through love, loss, and rediscovering herself is both vulnerable and empowering. I especially liked that she narrates it herself; it makes the experience feel even more intimate and real. It’s the kind of book that makes you pause, reflect, and connect with your own story.

Listening to this felt less like reading a memoir and more like sitting with a friend as she tells you her life story. Heather Wild's narration is so raw and intimate, it adds a layer of authenticity that a different narrator just couldn't capture. While her path of navigating heartbreak and codependency is different from my own, her journey toward finding self-worth is a universal theme that really resonated with me. It’s a powerful story about reclaiming yourself. This is an essential listen for any woman who feels like she's lost herself in relationships and needs a reminder of her own strength.
