Beautiful Charone Blackwell is a victim of multiple domestic violence and sexual battery attacks. Just when she thought she had successfully defied the odds and gotten away, she receives a call from her batterer letting her know she’s not safe—in fact far from it. The batterer is on the way to her home.

Desperate to get away from another brutal altercation, she leaves what was once her safe haven and goes to the local coffee shoppe where she believes she’ll be protected.

She meets London St. John. He’s sitting alone in the jam-packed café drinking a tall cup of Vanilla Cappuccino, completely lost in his thoughts.

There’s only one empty seat.

It’s at London’s table.

He’s furious.

But he puts on a good front.

Charone Blackwell says, “Excuse me, but are you holding this chair for someone? I wouldn’t think of intruding, but as you can see, there are no other available seats. Not even upstairs.”

London St. John is so deep in thought, so concerned about his own problems, he doesn’t even bother to look at Charone. Fascinated by something outside the picture window he’s looking out of, he says, “Sure. I’m about to leave, anyway.”

But London St. John doesn’t leave.

Charone Blackwell won’t let him leave.

Instead, they embark upon an engrossing conversation that will change the course of their lives forever.

Shortly after their chat begins, Charone Blackwell sees her batterer about to enter the Coffee Shoppe.

I Was Born This Way is a suspenseful romantic drama book full of twists and turns with an ending that will have listened riveted to their seats until the very last tick.
