The lives of teenagers Palomma Rossi and Doug Halecki continue from Greg Hatala’s first
novel, “I Love Liking You a Lot.” The two are no longer clueless about the opposite sex; that’s
been replaced by eagerness and anxiety about having sex, as well as all the new twists and turns
their lives are taking. Their friend Christine still fights through the emotional scars of rape.
Melody is experiencing mental health issues at a time when the subject was still taboo. And
Andy is becoming … someone the longtime friends don’t want to be around. All amid the
travails of teenage life in the 1970s.

Palomma has to come to grips both with her confusion about true love and the reality of
anorexia. Doug encounters the harsh realities of the world’s discrimination against gays and
minorities. The young couple experience the joys of intimacy but not without also facing the
realities of pregnancy. Christine has found a boyfriend and faces her feelings about money and
happiness, Ed’s debt to Andy has placed him in the dark world of drug dealing, climaxing in a
situation involving assault, arrest and anger … and the possibility that Doug and Palomma will
never see each other again.
