  • The Real Reason People Run | Austin Marathon Expo Stories | I Am Redemption | Shawn Livingston
    Mar 18 2026

What makes someone run 26.2 miles?

At the Austin Marathon Expo, we sat down with runners from all walks of life and asked one simple question:

    Why do you run?

The answers were deeper than we expected For some, running is discipline, for others, it’s healing, purpose, community, or even survival.

This is what I Am Redemption is all about, real people, real stories, and the power of turning pain into purpose

I Am Redemption was honored to be selected as an official nonprofit partner of the Austin Marathon

This year, we had 12 runners take on their first ever half and full marathons, representing something bigger than themselves

We also showed up in a major way on race day, with over 75 volunteers at the Mile 1 water station on Congress Avenue, overlooking the Texas State Capitol

From the expo to the course, this wasn’t just about running

    It was about community

It was about showing people what’s possible

It was about building something bigger than ourselves

I Am Redemption is more than a podcast.

It’s a movement focused on recovery, fitness, purpose, and community

We are continuing to grow, show up, and impact lives both online and in the real world
