A Greet Resource book on writing Children’s book-experiential and illustrative

This is indeed a very effective guidebook on how to write children’s books. I was impressed by the strong emphasis laid on deciding on age grade a writer is targeting.
The writer has shared his real life experience especially how his children read and reacted to his book. These reactions guided the language and psychology of his books’ plots.
The aspects of inspiration linked with age bracket of readers as well as stages in publishing are well treated.
The reading is clear and well dramatized. I like to read and re-read this book.
I recommend this as a great resource book for would-be writer and professional writers.

A couple points of worth

I’ll start with saying that I did not feel the voice of the narrator was appropriate for this book. Her voice sounded young, I felt it should be a more mature narrator.
It was often difficult to get through the stories of each child’s reaction to each of the book types. I was hoping for something that would be more descriptive as to each age group and the various styles that are appropriate for the age group.
As stated in the title of my review, there were a couple of good points that I will take away from this book. It just wasn’t what I hoped for.

From An Illustrator's Viewpoint

Would you try another book from HowExpert Press and Rusty Baker and/or Krystal Wascher?

This was an interesting perspective on the process of writing a children's book, and had some good advice. But it was strictly one author's experience. Also, I think the attitude toward the illustrator was just a little bit condescending. In a children's book, the illustrations are of utmost importance, and they tell the story just as much as the text. The illustrator doesn't work for the author, it has to be a mutual creative process. A single illustration can take weeks to complete, and must be thoughtfully designed to convey the mood or the action necessary for the story.

bland

No real advice regarding story lines or story boarding. I found the pretend child perspectives very assuming, "Wow, I like dragons too. I wander what's going to happen next." 👉😑💨. Not worth the time, or cost. I mean not even a brief "I would use _____ for good editing software." thanks for explaining -- I'm sorry -- stating the fact that 'good' marketing is important. Even if you defined what that looks like, I'm not reading about how to sell the book, I'm interested in the story making processes. Yes, if it's for a child. I would think, keeping the age group in mind would be a good idea. No need to explain how a 16yrld and a 8yrld have different vocabularies, interest, understanding, thought process. -- ugh can't return.

What did I learn from this book? Nothing. YouTube would give me better advice.
