Good Information

Any additional comments?

"Easy for her to say...". I believe her, I just don't have the imagination to create or the intelligence to present a story in an effective way. I don't care how many great techniques you may hear, if you don't have some degree of talent to begin with, no one can make you a successful writer. You can profit from the techniques in proportion to the amount of innate talent you have and to the degree you have time and are willing to work at developing that talent.

Good But -- There are better references

This book is a solid introduction to fiction writing. I listen to as many as 5-7 fiction novels a month and so I like to read about the mechanics of fiction; how they are assembled; what makes them work; what keeps a reader interested. There are definitely commonality in theory across genres. Overall, this novel does do a fair job at providing that overview. However, I think a much better, more detailed and exceptional book is "The Hero's Journey" written by the late Joseph Campbell and popularized recently by Christopher Vogler in the "Hero's Journey." I highly recommend these two works as they are an excellent complement to this work but provide a clear framework.

This is a short listen and for that I recommend it, especially because Lorelei Kind narrates. She is one of my most favorite readers. I would have graded to book lower hadn't it been for her familiar voice. So read this if you want a taste for theory this book, Vogler if you want clear formula and Campbell if you want mega knowledge.

Useful information for the forgetful friend

I enjoyed learning how to be a better friend without being nosy, as some may tend to use friendship as an excuse to be nosy. Concern and genuine interest are highlighted as the hallmarks to sincere friendship. Great gift for a good friend.

Wow!

To the author: THANK YOU! (Sorry for the exclamation that you warned against) lol. This is EXACTLY what I needed. I had all of these creative parts of my book floating around with no idea how to pull it all together. This did that to a tee. The book has saved me and is a must-read. I truly believe that now my book will come to fruition thanks to you.
