The part that was the most helpful for me was when the author talks about the obsession behind a relationship and how to shut down those intrusive thoughts. Even though the mind is so hard to dominate, this book gives you clear explanations of what's going on in your mind, so you can understand your thoughts and feelings better. Then, it gives you the "how" part to put into practice.

I love how this provides so many opportunities to act on whatever feels like the best place to start with whatever seems to be best, depending on your needs. Deloach pointed out that overthinking focuses on "what if's" and reflects our innate negativity bias (a new concept for me). I appreciated how the author begins with working on self discovery and improvement, including examining the past, working on self-esteem, and learning our personal attachment styles. Her activity recommendations were very detailed, such as her steps for crafting good affirmation statements. She didn't just say, "Create a self affirmation statement." She suggested how to improve first drafts. The shift to couple activities in the book's second half was brilliant. This is a great read just for its focus on communication skills.

I found this book really refreshing and practical. Julia Deloach breaks down common patterns of overthinking in a way that feels easy to understand and very relatable. The advice is simple enough to put into practice right away, but still powerful especially the parts about building trust and communicating more openly. It’s not heavy or clinical, more like having a conversation with a wise friend.

Definitely a great read
