Acerca de esta escucha

Do you want the greatest political and societal challenges of the day to be addressed with thoughtful, reality-based solutions rather than with cherry-picked quotations from scripture? Do you want to shrink religion - especially fundamentalist religion - to the point that it plays no noticeable role in public life? Do you want right-wing religious leaders to be so unpopular that politicians avoid them rather than pander to them for endorsements? Drawing on the latest social-scientific research on religion, How to Defeat Religion in 10 Easy Steps illustrates specific, actionable steps nonbelievers - and even progressive believers - can take to facilitate fundamentalist religion's decline. With each of its 10 chapters focusing on a specific strategy that research has shown can weaken religion, detailing the how and why, the book covers topics as far ranging as education, welfare, sex, science, capitalism, and Christmas, and offers a wide range of recommendations for individuals, local groups, and national organizations interested in speeding up secularization.

Not a bad book, but it partly advocates socialism as replacement of some religious functions.

Replace religion with socialism?

I really like hearing about his ideas on changes to help take religion away from holidays and insert humanistic good time fun I place- would love to see his school ideas actually implemented! Someday! I Hope!

Great ideas

This was a little slow and boring, but has very good information. Not too bad.

pretty good

This book is a summary and a road map for secular activists to have a more humanist and equal society. The language is really basic so it can be offered for even pre high school kids.

A really concise and well written book

The book was ok.

The author was of the opinion that the end justifies the means when it comes to social engineering. His "wedge" strategy that emulates the creationist movement, is as dishonest as the religious right's attempts to get evolution out of schools. We can't accept that the only was to secularize the country is to try to indoctrinate children in public school (as the right tries to do).

Über liberal manifesto

The title of this book is a lie. This book has little to do with promoting atheism in the world. I've been looking for good books about how to get people off their mystical nonsense indoctrination. I have come to expect honesty from the atheist movement and atheist authors. This was a waste of my time. He mentions noted liars and theists to follow and support. I have a new title for this book. "Why I think Karl Marx has compelling ideas" or "Venezuela is not so bad". He literally tells us that the biggest problem with atheism is that it is led and filled with white, hetero men- not just once but over and over again. He asserts a whole slew of claims completely untethered to supporting evidence. He needed to be honest, as others have. He needs to know and support real knowledge that as we become more secular, we'll stop all the nonsense and horrors that come with faith based religion. I can dismiss this book as another book extolling the virtues of communist ideology - not atheism. thanks for nothing.

Worst book to promote atheism, and honesty

Speaking as a Libertarian atheist business owner in the Midwest, many of the policy changes recommended in this book would lead to the bankrupting and destruction of America. Many of those include policies recommended by the Socialist Party as well as backhandedly advocating communism. while I agree with the goal of reducing or eliminating the influence of religion, I wouldn't want it to cost America it's exceptionalism.

Extremely left wing.
