Acerca de esta escucha
An underwater luxury hotel on a gorgeous tropical island is set for an extravagant opening weekend with the world watching. The only thing standing in the way of a first-rate experience for the jet-setting VIPs is an unscrupulous businessman and 60 feet of prehistoric shark. As the underwater complex is besieged by a marauding behemoth, newly minted marine biologist Coco Keahi must face off against the ancient predator as it rises from the deep with a vengeance. Meanwhile, a human monster has decided he would be better off if Coco were one of the creature's victims.

Historia
A series of violent shark attacks off the shores of northern California draw the attention of pessimistic Detective Luke Jansen. Despite reports of shark sightings, the injuries are more reminiscent of a chainsaw-wielding maniac. Things get stranger when marine biologist Elise Sheldon encounters the creature. Exhausted and traumatized, her claims that the beast is a Helicoprion are dismissed. With little help from the police department, Luke and Elise form an unlikely alliance that puts them face-to-face with a violent man-eating shark, and its terrifying reason for existing.

100,000 years ago the object hit the lake at the deepest point, quickly sinking into its mile-deep Stygian darkness. The sheets of ice closed, time moved on and the land forgot. But over the centuries, legends grew of people vanishing, of strange, deformed animals and of an unexplained luminescence down in the lake depths. When Marcus Stenson won the lucrative contract to create a sturgeon fish farm on the site of disused paper mill on the shore of Lake Baikal, he thought he had won the lottery and refused to listen to the chilling folktales....

On an entirely normal, beautiful fall day in Chester's Mill, Maine, the town is inexplicably and suddenly sealed off from the rest of the world by an invisible force field. Planes crash into it and fall from the sky in flaming wreckage, a gardener's hand is severed as "the dome" comes down on it, people running errands in the neighboring town are divided from their families, and cars explode on impact. No one can fathom what this barrier is, where it came from, and when - or if - it will go away.

A Great Shark Attack Story
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Yes, I would recommend Hotel Megalodon to a friend; at least, I would recommended this book to someone who loves Thrillers and sharks and different deep sea stories.
Not everyone is a big fan of shark/deep sea thrillers, as that's the case for me. However, this story caught my eye right from the beginning.
A big, scary shark from the deep depths of the sea puts the employees and guests of a new underwater hotel at extreme risk... and reeks havoc for everyone involved.
One mysteries thing after mysteries another starts happening to the resort just before the opening; and the events start to build up.
For me, once the second or third thing became brought to the attention to the big boss, I would have started to investigate the happenings... and/or possibly shut down the hospital for a time. Then again, I understand the need & want to attempt to keep the hotel open for as long as possible.
A great thriller, if I do say so myself ... so yes, I would recommend the book to everyone.
What was one of the most memorable moments of Hotel Megalodon?
One of the most memorable moments of Hotel Megalodon is when CoCo first encounters the shark... and made her future encounters with the shark ... all that much more difficult to handle.
What does Andrew Tell bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
Andrew Tell brings an interesting ...voice to Hotel Megalodon. He keeps the story entertaining, and brings the characters to life!
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Yes, I wanted to read Hotel Megalodon in one setting; however, because of my personal life, I could not do so. I was still able to enjoy the story the entire time I was listening to the book.
Any additional comments?
I really enjoyed Hotel Megalodon; and I was able to read the book for free! :) It was worth getting the book even if I'd been required to pay for the book!

Enter a hotel underwater and you may never leave..
They thought it was the perfect getaway. Little did they know...
The perfect luxury hotel built underwater in the oceans surrounding the Fiji Islands. What could go wrong? All of the simple things had all been planned for, even the major catastrophic things were thought about. But, no one planned for a long-extinct shark to show up and start showing an interest in the hotel and it's guests both inside and outside of the hotel walls. Marine Biologist Coco Keahi has seen this shark first hand and must enter the water more than she'd like to help others and herself. This prehistoric shark has other things in mind for Coco.
The narration for Hotel Megalodon was done by Andrew Tell and he did a wonderful job. Yes, most of the story were from the point of view of a female -- he still does a great job voicing her inner and outer monologues. Along with the other characters in the book. There was never a time I felt confused or unsure of who was speaking. Tell was a really good choice for narration and the quality of the audiobook was great.
This was another book that I'd had buried on my "to read" list for quite some time, so I feel lucky that I was able to get a copy to review on audiobook. Ever since I read "Meg" by Steve Alten I was hooked. I've always had an obsession with sharks and after reading about the Megalodon I was hooked even more (pardon the puns).
Chesler obviously has some knowledge of these sharks and what is said about them in the history books. The sizing and predatory nature of them were really well done in this book. And I didn't feel like it wasn't all plausible (yes, even though it's a thought to be extinct shark).
The action scenes were incredibly well done. Chesler has a wonderful way of writing these short and tight action scenes that only take minutes in the book out into these wonderful drama-filled scenes. He does all of this without making the reader feel like they're being left out to sea. Walking that tightrope between too much and not enough.
Now that I've finished Hotel Megalodon, I will definitely be looking for more books from Chesler. I hope that more of them are audiobooks too!
Overall if you like fast-paced stories with strong characters -- this book is for you. If you want to read a wonderful story about a huge shark and seemingly unending danger -- Hotel Megalodon should be right up your alley.

It came from the deep
Would you listen to Hotel Megalodon again? Why?
I would since I enjoyed the story. It was humorous and fun. You have a new hotel built underwater, what could go wrong?
What was one of the most memorable moments of Hotel Megalodon?
The stupidity of some of the choices by hotel management. "Oh, you have video of the shark...let me erase it." "Oh, it isn't that bad..."
What about Andrew Tell’s performance did you like?
I loved how he told the story. His voice was different for the characters, which makes the story worth listening to.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Yes, it was a fun story. Even my teenage son listened with me becuase of the Megalodon.

Reminiscent of Alten and Benchley
If you are a fan of deep sea thrillers this is one you will enjoy. Not as heavy on marine biology as altens Meg series but it nonetheless is a great read. I very much enjoyed the novel, the characters and I have always been thrilled by the idea of an underwater hotel. I really enjoyed this book
I really enjoyed this book. At first, it felt a bit clunky because you are starting midway through the story of the hotel, but it quickly becomes an interesting thriller. All the secondary and minor characters (that is, anyone not Coco or White) are extreme versions of cardboard cutouts. There is a very minor romantic plot that seems to have started as a bigger plot line, but was left dangling. You get names occasionally, but more often you get titles/positions or broad descriptions. Doesn't really matter because most of these people will die in horrific ways.
Andrew Tell did a really good job narrating. He has a good voice and pace for thrillers. Even his female voices are pretty good.
One thing I would like to see is a short story about the fallout from this event. Because it was hard to connect to the characters, I really connected to the idea of what was going to happen after the event. It could be told with newspaper articles, news stories, and trial transcripts. Have Tell narrate and I would totally buy it.

Sharktastic!
This was so much fun!!! Such a cheesy concept but excellently executed! After listening to this, I went and checked out the authors other works only to see that he wrote another book I thoroughly loved, Jurassic Dead, which involves Zombie Dinosaurs ;) Well this one involves an extinct (well thought to be) giant shark called Megalodon.
I loved the plot and setting of this! A luxury hotel built under water, with lots of supposedly bullet proof glass, sure what could possible go wrong!! Despite planning for all likely scenarios, like storms, earthquakes etc, how is one supposed to plan for a shark over 60 long and intent on getting to the delicious food inside the hotel, and I'm not talking about the canapes!!! What can you do against such a beast? Well, that's the question that Coco, the marine biologist has to answer since her boss is such an a$$hole and only cares about his precious hotel.
The author really brought the shark and ocean to life in his descriptive writing. I had no problem picturing the scenes and even believing them! The explanation about how an extinct shark could possibly survive is plausible (well once you suspend belief that is ;) Lol) and tied into the story really well. I flew through the book and had a hard time unplugging because I needed to see what happened next!
In all, this was an entertaining, engaging and addicting read. With plenty of action and plenty of scenes to have you on the edge of your seat, this is a must read. I so want to see this as a movie!!
This isn't the first book I've listened to that's read by Andrew Tell, and it definitely won't be my last. Even though a lot of this book is told through a female perspective, I never felt that a female narrator would of been better, Andrew Tell did an amazing job of bringing this book to life. He really brought the tenseness to another level and made for effortless listening.
*I received a copy of this for review. This in no way affected my thoughts.*

Blue waters, new underwater hotel, big shark.
I have been a bit critical of the only two books I have read that were written by Rick Chesler. My gripe was that there was very little of what the books' titles referred to. For example, The Guardians of Atlantis hardly had any action in Atlantis, and The Yeti was more a book on the difficulties of climbing Everest. While they were both good books in their own way, I felt cheated, considering their titles. Sure I like both burgers and pizzas, but if I order a pizza, I will be disappointed if I am served a burger.
So what about Hotel Megalodon? Admittedly, it was not bad. The shark was "there" the whole time. My only disappointment was that I listened to the audiobook. While the narrator was very good at reading general passages, I disliked most of his characters' voices. The voice he used for one of the main characters, James White, grated on me. It was supposed to be an Australian accent, but he was way off. The character came across as a petulant child (not helped by the script, I suppose).
I wish there were a bit more urgency and suspense while building to the climax. It was, at times, a bit lethargic, and characters would make the most bizarre decisions. If one is willing to look past these issues, one will be entertained. The book probably deserves 3.5 stars, but I feel this book is aimed more at young adults and didn't quite invoke emotion in me. It is a fun holiday read, but no more.
