When the Saulnier sisters suffer one disappointment too many in their native France, they decide to pack up and try their luck in America. And along the way, they dine on: Nathan's Famous hot dogs at the annual hot dog-eating contest in Coney Island; snapping turtle soup as prepared by the Native American elders of the Alabama-Coushatta tribe; cheesy grits from the Armadillo Diner in Texas; and burgers, burgers, burgers everywhere!

As the Saulnier sisters adopt the American way of eating, their relationship to food shortly changes. They gain weight - and lose their self-esteem. This new diet is especially hard on Victorine, who temporarily abandons her vegetarianism. It's not until they meet a couple running an organic farm in upstate New York that they realize how far they've strayed from their native food values - and learn that you can eat well in America, too.

Fascinating look at American culture

I absolutely love this book! I thought it would be more about the European diet but turns out it’s more about their exploration of America with a “side dish” about the food.

Recipes seem like padding

Some cute and interesting stories looking at America from foreign eyes but the inclusion of recipes is weird and unnecessary, esp given some of the topics touched upon in this book. I wish the author had spent more time casting an eye on her fellow New Yorkers.

not really about the food

not really about food. more about their crazy adventures and they yeah they are some food. not why they chose to eat what they did. how the food shaped their adventures. like a true French meal. you leave the table still a little hungry

Recipe story

A travel story for two French ladies in America but it is not very interesting, in fact rather trite. The recipes aren’t worth having and what good are they in an audible rather than paper book?

It was poorly executed. The book is pretty much about their travels in the US. I'm not sure how this book even got on Audible.

Painful!

Why have it read by someone poorly faking a French accent...just get someone French to read it!!!I couldn’t get past it.
