Homosexuality is a form of sexual expression that is as complex as heterosexuality and not fully understood. Genetic research has been done over the last three decades in an attempt to discover groups of genes that contribute to individuals’ predisposition to homosexuality. Psychological research has been done on homosexuals for the last century in an attempt to convert them to heterosexuals. Homosexuals have a place within all secular societies, and they have a right to sexual freedom similarly to other individuals within it. Alan Philowitz explores historical and contemporary research surrounding homosexuality, and he investigates the impracticality of religious arguments offered by both proponents and opponents of same-sex behavior. Although homosexuals are a minority of individuals throughout the world, their struggle for rights in the modern world reflects a larger struggle for freedom fought for over the centuries by countless individuals.

Hmm…

As a gay male who’s written masters level theses and have studied homosexuality from an academic standpoint, I picked up on the bias in the first chapter. What was the point of this book? To use statistical data to skew opinions about homosexuality?

Homophobia strongly emerges in last chapters

The first 2/3 of the book were informative and based in evidence. However, when he came to talking about marriage and children saying that children’s identity cannot be formed if living with two same-sex parents, that it is unfair for homosexual couples to be allowed to adopt and deprived infertile, heterosexual, couples, etc. …the book reveals that it is a work of bigotry.
