not only do you get the rare topic of true friendship (which I feel is typically pushed aside for the topic of romantic love), but you get a black, proud, queer poet making you feel like you've witnessed it. It all kinda feels nostalgic like the movie Crooklyn, ya know?

This book held my partner and me transfixed for a long roadtrip through the south. Smith is one of the best poets in the canon, on the page and behind the mic. Their poems shift deftly from emotion to emotion, making turns that always surprised me and always felt earned.
