That's what Home Front: A Memoir from WWII is about. You'll share his experience - the blackouts, the rationing, the fears, the patriotism, and the unity everyone felt. As the men go off to war, you follow Douglas, our young narrator, as he grows to an obliged maturity, sharing with others, enduring the scarcity of the depression, the fear and patriotism during World War II and then the exuberance in that brief, post-war period when America felt safe and when the middle class was born.
After the war, with the GI Bill, VA loans, and fully stocked storeshelves,the country was all about getting back to normal. But, you'll learn, for some normal was gone. Home Front chronicles a farm family and how normal evaded its reach.
Home Front also includes Voices from the Home Front where you can learn about 37 Americans who share their home front stories in their own words.

Not A Memoir of WW2 Homefront !
This is hardly a memoir of WW2 Homefront. Only about 20% is about the War.
Mostly a Memoir about a Farm Boy and pretty disjointed. The audio was not very good quality.
It sounded like an echo chamber. Narrated by the author. It ended abruptly and never let you know
whether he married Laura, his childhood friend. Too much about his love of fishing.
Although the story was interesting it is NOT about the Homefront as advertised in the review.

A sweet, smart insight into an earlier era
This book is fascinating, charming, and poignant, with both humorous and heartbreaking moments. Mr. Peterson is an excellent, compelling writer, and to hear his own voice tell the story of his youth on the farm makes it all the sweeter. I highly recommend this book.
