The European Kingdom of Holland, also known as "The Netherlands", was a world trading nation that had a large number of colonies. In the 17th century, Holland was even the most prosperous nation in Europe.
Amsterdam, Alkmar, Volendam, Edam, Hoorn, Enkhuizen, Houtribdijk, Schokland, Kampen, Flevoland, Nijmegen, Waal-Bommel, Dordrecht, Gauda, Delft, Leiden, Zeeland, Zandvoort, Keukenhof, Haarlem
Amsterdam is Holland's cosmopolitan metropolis and the largest pile building settlement in the world.
An international garden architecture exhibition is held every ten years near Schiphol Airport. The blooming show gardens of the Floriade are admired by visitors from all over the world.
In the 16th century, the seaside location brought great fame to Edam. Over thirty shipyards flourished in the city and the fleet of the legendary Dutch hero Michiel De Ruyter was constructed here.
Nijmegen is located on the banks of the Waal River. The origins of the oldest city in Holland date back to the Roman settlement of Noviomagum. The nineteen windmills, the Molens Van Kinderdijk are world famous and have been declared a World Heritage Site by Unesco.
The fascinating mix of old cities, dreamy villages, paintings by famous painters and the flat landscape with windmills, dikes and tulip fields.
