Cutler Sharp has it rough. After moving to Appalachia with his wife, in search of a fresh start, Cutler’s marriage implodes, and, shortly thereafter, his wife’s body is found at a local hiking hotspot, causing Cutler to be listed as a person of interest in her mysterious death.

Cutler finds a friend in local sheriff, Sam Hawkins, and they end up against all odds as they confront problems caused by a crooked, nepotistic politician, Al Sundae, and his wife, Teresa, whose uncle runs the infamous Sansevieria Cartel. An altercation on Hawkins' farm and a shooting during their town's fall parade cause Cutler to question his purpose, while he struggles with the challenges of a deeply personal loss, new foes, local menaces and old secrets.

He moved to the country to live a simpler life, but the complications keep coming in a novel that's equal parts mystery, soap opera and raucous thriller.
