Acerca de esta escucha

Earliest history records of Pass Christian show that the peninsula was owned by the Widow Asmar, a French lady who had homes both at New Orleans and at the Pass. Her Gulf coast property was primarily used to graze cattle and as a dairy farm. She owned slaves that took care of her cattle and operated the dairy as well as tending to some farming to raise crops for themselves. In all, there were about twenty slaves that helped prosper her holdings. She gave freedom to about half of them and from that group of Freed Persons, Charlot is the most noted one since he was her overseer and was deeded a large portion of land. From the Charlot group and the slaves that were held by other Frenchmen in the DeLisle area, is where most of the current Blacks descended from. Others migrated from New Orleans and from Carribean Islands. The Blacks of Pass Christian have always been considered a unique group in that they are generous and proud; and bear their culture and heritage close to their hearts. Most Blacks have their churches that they support – and in turn, their churches support them. Here unfolds: Histoire Noir du Pass Christian.
