What a gem!

A gem of an essay for those who love New York City. Not to be missed!

A fantastic book

A great book that I found to be so well written. There is so much relatability in this man’s work it is outstanding. I highly recommend this book.

Familiar & Distant t the Same Timei

I loved it with the familiar distant past and eerie present all wrapped into one. The bones of New York remain the same as the City and it’s neighborhoods continue to change, grow and occasionally return to it’s/their roots. I have a bias for the author as the Trumpet of the Swan was my favorite childhood book.

Great and insightful

Other than a whiny introduction done, apparently, in 1999, by some forgettable snob writer, complaining :she ain't what she used to be,' this is a fantastic and sympathetic dedication to the best city ever (besides Kenosha.)

I have only been to NY a few times; but this put me right back in the action and energy I experienced.

A Lovely Listen for All Fans of E. B. White

The distinct style and beauty of E. B. White is never so evident as in Here Is New York. Even if you've never been to New York or aren't a fan of large cities, you will love this short listen, because it encapsulates what America is: the melting pot of the world, a place where every culture, every taste, every talent is embraced and appreciated, recognized and celebrated. What a wonderful piece of literature!

Beautifully done

Excellent narration of a timeless piece. As an ex- New Yorker, it gave me a nostalgic pang.

Here is New York

An essay, more than a book or a story, this is a perfect accompaniment to a short evening walk through any city. White does a wonderful job drawing a picture of one of the earths greatest cities and its inhabitants. I loved this.

NYC is a special place.

Relevant then, and relevant now, EB Whites “Here is New York” will especially hit home to the New Yorker & the NYer which EB has coined the “Settler.” Enjoy

Old New York

A wonderful walk around Post-War Manhattan in search of the city of White's youth even as it was rapidly disappearing.

Timeless New York

Wonderful prose written in 1947 but is just as fresh and real today. Amazing that in NY change is constant. Pity (but true) that in his eyes I went from a coveted New Yorker when I lived there for 20 years to a dreaded commuter now, just another foreign sassenach. Well worth a listen
