Resumen del Editor

Number one book on making herbal soaps!

Soaps are a regular part of our daily routines. They range from bath soaps, to laundry soaps, to detergents. The obvious function is to help us stay clean in every way. They make us feel fresh and smell nice every day. Despite their popular and wide usage, these soaps can cause many skin related problems and respiratory problems as well. The problem lies in the artificial ingredients used during the manufacturing process. This not only affects us negatively, it also has effects on the environment. While the need for soaps cannot be ignored, the impact that they have on our bodies and on the environment cannot go unnoticed as well.

The solution to the dilemma is to create homemade soaps from scratch. The idea is to use all natural materials that are good for both the body and the environment. There are many other powerful benefits to be gained from this as well.

This audiobook explores the varied concepts and ideas related to homemade soap making combined with natural herb use. Listen and discover the world of herbal soap making and enjoy the unique luxury that they can give. Our lives can be enriched for the better just by taking advantage of nature’s little ways of helping us.

Pretty Good But Could Be Better

This is a book all about making herbal soaps. I feel the author did a great job with what tools, ingredients and instructions dealing with soap making. She added tips, tricks and safety warnings as well. The list of herbs is impressive and I don't see why an Amazon reviewer said more explanation was needed. Also, another Amazon reviewer gave this book only one star stating:

"Oils and lye are supposed to be measured by weight. Every soap maker knows this. If you use these recipes, please run it through a lye calculator and do not use a measuring cup or spoon to measure lye! Ever! The goats milk recipe doesn't even explain how goats milk can burn if you pour lye into it and how important it is to either freeze goats milk first or put it in an ice bath."

Now, I intently listened to this book looking for these "mistakes" and only found one. The author doesn't say that the goat's milk needs to be frozen and kept on ice until the lye is completely combined to keep from scorching (which I personally looked up to verify it should have been said). However I didn't hear at any time where the author wrote to use measuring cups/spoons to measure lye. Also, in the beginning, when the author lists the tools needed for soap making she does emphasize the need for a digital scale that can measure the weights you need, at the very least. So she doesn't say for the soap maker to USE measuring cups/spoons to measure lye in any way! Since I don't make my own soap and have never tried this sounded like a really great guide. My only suggestion would be that the author could have made it a bit more thorough. The narration was well done. Julie Niblett has a nice clear voice and read at a comfortable pace, easy to follow.
