Resumen del Editor

He could not deny that he loved her with the sort of feeling and certainty that novelists and romantics dreamt of - not that he had ever considered himself romantic.

At the tender age of 12, Elizabeth Bennet vowed to protect her younger sisters from her parents’ neglect, brought on by their increasingly combative marriage. Jane is her partner in this endeavour - until her attention is diverted by the arrival of a handsome new neighbor, Mr Bingley. With him is his friend, Mr. Darcy, who Elizabeth first dismisses as taciturn and rude. But as she gets to know him, other feelings arise - ones destined to end in heartbreak. because of her promise to remain with her sisters.

Soon after arriving at Netherfield, Fitzwilliam Darcy finds himself intrigued by one of the local, young ladies. There is something about Elizabeth Bennet’s kindliness that draws him to her. And, as he learns more about her, his admiration grows. First determined to forget her, he soon wants more than anything to win her heart, and her hand in marriage. But, will the very thing that draws him to her be the thing that forever keeps them apart?

Good story, but short

I liked the difference in home situation from a creative and realistic aspect. It would have been even better if it were three times the length, but c'est la vie.

Excellent Narrator, as always!

I always love a good audiobook with Harry Frost as narrator, you can‘t do anything wrong. I particularly love Darcy‘s deep voice. In my honest opinion Harry Frost is doing a great job in narrating the different voices and has the same in every Pride & Prejudice Variation so you instantly know which character it is. The story is also very good, the author stayed true to Elizabeth Bennet‘s character as well as to Darcy‘s and the others main character. Except maybe the marriage of Mr. Bennet and Mrs. Bennet, they didn‘t love eachother that much is clear but I think they wouldn‘t hurt eachother in front of the girls or ever, but it‘s part of the storyline so it‘s okay.
All in all, you can‘t do wrong in buying.

Good Story

Not sure it was worth a credit, but it was a good story.

Harry Frost is a great narrator, even for me, a card carrying member of the Stevie Zimmerman Fan Club🤣

Elizabeth become a parent to her sisters

While mr and mrs Bennet arguments become too much Elizabeth with the help of Jane become parents to the younger girls even at a young age.
This was both an entertaining story and an awful one thinking of the verbal abuse the girls were subjected too. The love the girls shared made the story entertaining and hopeful.
The narrator has to be one of the best I have ever heard. The story comes to life.

Story was average but performance was great

Interesting concept that Mr and Mrs Bennet's relationship was not a good one and it's affects on the daughters (while it does discuss that it was abusive, I don't personally think the descriptions were inappropriate but be warned if this is a trigger). The story itself was an interesting idea but it was a bit repetitive at time, which is a little concerning since it's a 4 hour audio book (and why I gave the story 3 stars). Harry Frost's performance kept it entertaining; will definitely look for other stories he has narrated.

Enjoyable

I enjoyed the story but I would have like for the story to continue a little bit more. It seems like it ended abruptly.

I enjoyed the story mostly because of Mr Harry Frost's narration. It was quite compelling.

Gentle and Engaging Romance and Sisterly Love

With parents only absorbed by their bitter recriminations and selfish personal comfort, the Bennet sisters have only each other. Responsibility struck Elizabeth Bennet at an early age and it is her attention to her loving care and duty to her sisters that makes a man grow curious enough about her to disregard his adherence to family and class. I was eager to listen in to this long-novella length gentle, low-angst Pride & Prejudice variation tale.

Her Sisterly Love portrays a reality that many people have been forced to face in their growing up years- domestic violence between parents that leads to residual violence, abuse, and neglect to the children. Without getting gritty and graphic nor any on-scene abuse, the listener/reader is left in no doubt that it isn’t pretty in the Longbourn household. In this case, both parents are going at it hammer and tongs verbal and physically abusing each other in regular fits of anger.

The character of Lizzy is something of a paragon, especially since she and Jane took the reins and educated their younger sisters in school subjects and decorum even as they had to be somewhat self-taught. But, I’m fine with this to a certain extent in my fiction and especially since it adds an interesting set up to the story. This does however, lessen the tension and angst to the story for all those who want more conflict and drama.

Darcy encounters Lizzy at a series of neighborhood social events. He sees himself as above the neighborhood and the Bennets until he starts to observe Elizabeth and even gets a frank observation from her after she shows herself well against a lying charmer. He is made to see himself through her eyes and he vows to do better. Their romance is friendship and then love comes. Sweet and swoony even through the final barrier to their romance.

Harry Frost delivered an excellent vocal performance and suited the story style and characters very well.

All in all, this was a delightful and swift listen that was gentle and comfy, low angst and engaging. Sweet historical romance fans are the target audience.

Lovely!

The premise of the story is totally different from the original in that Elizabeth and Jane step up and take care of their younger sisters. I love having an intelligent, well-behaved Lydia! Thanks for a great story.

Dysfunctional Parents

Great narration and performance by Harry Frost, as always.

The Bennet sisters are not exactly happy. At a very young age, Elizabeth and Jane realized that their dysfunctional home, filled with ongoing distress and fear—and sometimes even violence—was not the best environment for themselves and their younger sisters. As such, because of the neglect they suffer from their parents, the older ones take up the responsibility of educating the younger in conduct and propriety, as well as the skills they will need to become accomplished young ladies. It was very pleasant to see Mary, Kitty and Lydia with some sense instilled in them, but sad to see their parents acting in such a way towards them and against each other. While there is nothing too graphic, their mutually abusive relationship troubled me.

Darcy doesn’t insult Elizabeth at the assembly but, he is still taciturn, doesn’t dance except with Bingley’s sisters, and stalks the perimeter of the room, still leaving a bad impression. At this and other social events, he notices and begins to admire and respect the motherly role Elizabeth has taken upon herself in guiding her sisters.

Jane and Bingley are falling in love, but Elizabeth is untrusting and fears Jane will be hurt. Darcy is surprised at this and defends him. Did Elizabeth go too far? Will this turn him away from her just when she is developing feelings for him beyond friendship?

I appreciated the sisterly love and loyalty aspect of the story. Despite my misgivings about the abuse, this novella is well-written and I am happy to recommend it.
