Resumen del Editor

Ernest Hemingway's literary ambitions took root in France in the 1920s among some of the most extravagantly creative artists of the twentieth century. Pablo Picasso, Georges Braque, James Joyce, T. S. Eliot, Gertrude Stein, F. Scott Fitzgerald, Ezra Pound, Cole Porter, Sergey Diaghilev, and others were drawn to the left bank of the Seine in Paris after World War I. Hemingway joined them and, with the publication of his book The Sun Also Rises, which epitomized Paris during the jazz era, became one of the most powerful forces in the vortex of talent and experimentation.

Author Winston Conrad writes, "This book is my attempt to illustrate Hemingway's attachment to France and its City of Light, to connect us with the magic and romance that inspired him to write wonderful stories and great books."

Reseñas de la Crítica

"Hemingway's France is 'must' read for all Hemingway fans and for the nonspecialist general reader with an interest in the writings, paintings, and poetry created in those turbulent times by the now legendary personalities of yesteryear." (Internet Book Watch)

Fine book. Great, great narrator

Tom Parker seems to be one of best American narrators. Love to hear more of him.

Brief but fascinating look at the lost generation

An interesting piece of history interwoven with historic narrative of a group of artists living a bohemian lifestyle many of us can only dream of. This book elaborates the good and the bad of their lifestyle and relationships while describing the world as they found it from the 20s to the early 60s. Perhaps a few too many references to a Moveable Feast which I’d argue isn’t even in EH’s top 5 but that’s just me. Performance is good and I found no issues with it. Fits the tone of the book well.

I liked this a lot

This was really nice - it gives plenty of details and context regarding Hemingway's post - WWI time in France. If you're familiar with Paris there are plenty of details about the neighborhoods that the Lost Generation frequented and you'll get a real sense of what Paris (and other parts of France) were like at the time.

Delightful story but..

I found the story interesting and filled with many facts. However, the narrators voice hurt my ears. The book would have been delightful if read by someone else.

Hemingway

I so wish my husband had lived to hear this book. I gained my greatest appreciation for Hemingway throughout our 50 years of marriage.
This book provides a really important insight into the the artists, writers, and even philosophers of the 1920 - 1950. What a remarkable era. I sincerely appreciated this journey and thank the author, the narrator, and Hemingway.

Entertaining brief account of Hemingway's sojourn.

The story is brief and familiar. Whether those terms are taken as admiration or condemnation depends upon what you are looking for. This book makes for a good prelude or reminder for other, broader or more scholarly tales of this notable personality and companions. The greatest strength it has is that it is not a hagiography, subjecting the subject and ancillary figures to both praise and criticism.

Did not hold my interest.

Since it was so short, I forced myself to finish. If it were a regular length novel, I wouldn't have finished.
