War between the universes is the last thing responsible leaders on either side want. But the fury of their respective populations, xenophobic fear of the unknown, and cries for justice (or vengeance) are all driving both sides toward the brink. The actions of local military commanders and diplomats may well determine the final outcome, and unscrupulous, power-hungry men - and Arcana and Sharona alike - have agendas of their own.

The fuse has been lit, and a war stretching across the universes, across an endless succession of identical Earths, fought between dragons, spells, and crossbows and repeating rifles, machine guns, and artillery is about to begin in white-hot rage and fury. Where it will end - and how - no one knows.

Hell Hath No Fury

A solid second book of an amusing book series. You really cannot go wrong with dragons, telepathics, and wizards. This is a story for those that enjoy an elaborately woven plot lines that bridge multiple books.

World Building at Its Finest

Weber and Evans have built an incredible universe with robust characters, thick plots, and a mighty storyline.

very well done world building.

lot of fun. be prepared to invest the time. labor of love here. but if detail doesn't scare you, worth the time.

Better than Book 1

This second novel of the series is an improvement over the first because it comes with a rudimentary map to help the reader keep the transition chain figured out and an extensive glossary at the end if you can't recall how a name fits into the story when you see it again. That being said I just discovered there was a decade long publishing gap between this book and the next and I am heartily pleased I didn't read these first two when they were published 15 years ago! I also discovered the fourth book has not yet been published which I find worrisome.
I would give this novel 4.5 stars but the system makes me choose 4 or 5 and it doesn't rate a five in my opinion.

Both story, & reading are remarkably done...

The one thing I can say is brilliant.
I listened the whole night, hooked.
However,
I advise you to make notes on
Who the names are. In spite of being confused
most of the time as to what name belonged to which side of the conflict I couldn't stop listening to this engaging novel. WOW..!

Like WWI, but with cliffhangers

When I started the first book and learned that neither side had had a major war in decades, I had a feeling that it was eventually going to become a literary rerun of WWI; I was right. Just like the great powers had gotten used to steamrolling over technologically inferior peoples only to find themselves unsure of how to fight a modern war, both sides here had gotten used to not fighting at all only to fail to realize the full capabilities of their foes. And just like how history had too many guys willing to send millions pointlessly to their deaths for their own maddening reasons, this book has too many people wanting a war to further their own agendas. Aside from continuing to get bogged down in too many details, the only problem I had was that the epilogue left 2 questions unanswered: when is that Voice kid going to pass on his message and what happened to the diplomat group that ran off in a different direction?

Great Book

This book took a while to get though, but we'll worth the listen. the characters are memorable and every well delivered line drove the story forward with passion. Great story, great narrator.

really enjoyed the battle strategies and the way that the two cultures do things differently it's amazing how communication plays such a vital role and how cultural realities have such a profound effect.

Excellent pure Weber!

This story, per the wonderful quality and clarity of all of Weber's stories, is as wonderful as all his other books. Wonderful narration, and wonderful storytelling@
