Resumen del Editor

Herschel Cobb's moving account of his relationship with his legendary grandfather reveals a side of Ty Cobb that few people ever saw, that of loving nurturer. A baseball icon and arguably the best player who ever lived, Ty Cobb's infamously cold, competitive nature allowed him to excel on the ball field but undermined his relationship with his children. Devastated by the untimely death of two of his sons, Cobb relished the opportunity to reconnect the broken family ties when young Herschel and his siblings visited him during the summers.

In this book, Herschel, whose cruel, abusive father and adulterous, alcoholic mother filled his childhood with turmoil, recounts how his grandfather provided the stability, love and guidance that Herschel desperately needed. This memoir describes the healing bond between Cobb and his grandchildren, and constructs a wholly different legacy for the notoriously tough Cobb as gentle and affectionate "Granddaddy."

Really great

This book is terrific. Narration is perfect. Life tales for younger readers. Icing on the cake to adult readers of Charles Leerhsen’s great bio.

This is the perfect follow for a Terrible Beauty

Very well written and shows the true character of the man. This is the perfect follow-up read to Ty Cobb a terrible beauty. Both show and deminish a lot of the myths from the life of a great man with flaws and regrets, just like everyone else. I've always felt that something wasn't right with the image portrayed of Ty Cobb by Al Stump and Ray Liotta in field of dreams. This book really shows the character of the man. This book destroys the myth that this great man was a heartless tyrant. Ty Cobb was the first real superstar in a time when there was jealousy and no real media, perspective, or precedent. If Ty Cobb were to play during the modern era he would be held in higher regard like Micheal Jordan or Tom Brady. Somehow there are great people in history that fall victim to hearsay, myth and rumors. Ty Cobb in my opinion was one of those great men. Herschel Cobb did a fine job of shining a light on how great his Granddaddy truly was.
