Every town and city in the United States has a haunted house at Halloween time. To make Slaterville's haunted house more spectacular, frightening, and mysterious than any other haunted house in Northern California, Valerie Wiggins realizes hers must different if she wants to raise money one for the domestic abuse charity she runs. The person who can help her achieve success is Jason McLain, a former Hollywood Oscar winning special effects expert who recently moved to Slaterville. His presence spurs mixed emotions. She’s attracted to him and afraid of him. Did he kill his wife? He was acquitted of the murder, but only because of a lack of evidence. Even Jason isn't so sure of his innocence. It seems like bad luck follows him everywhere and his jealousy streak seems to trigger these episodes. As the attraction between them grows into love, Valerie vows to get to the bottom of what happened to Jason’s wife; however, her snooping just might be her undoing.
