In the backwoods of nowhere special, Harlan Pickett has a problem: someone—or something—is stealing his shoes right off the porch. With his last remaining pairs disappearing one by one, Harlan enlists his equally hapless cousin Arlo to construct a ridiculous trap to catch the mysterious thief.

What follows is a comedy of errors featuring moonshine-fueled engineering, a mother-in-law accidentally painted red, a seven-year-old computer expert, and a trap so elaborate it'd make Wile E. Coyote proud. Meanwhile, Harlan's long-suffering wife, Erlene, just waants a decent night's sleep without mysterious tapping sounds beneath the trailer.
