This book is intended to be an exceptionally delicate yet exhaustive manual for the secrets in the universe of hacking and infiltration testing. It is particularly written to help you ace the essential steps and hidden secret recipes needed to finish a hack or entrance test without overpowering you. When you complete this book, you will have a strong comprehension of the infiltration testing procedure and you will be okay with the hidden secrets and essential devices. This book is also about hacking ethically and the science of testing your computers and network for security vulnerabilities and plugging the holes you find before the bad guys get a chance to exploit them.

Painfull to listen to and outdated

What was most disappointing about Emily Goldstein’s story?

Outdated, Still talking about Backtrack as if it was new, it's been outdated for 3+ years (Kali, it's replacement is already on version 2.0)

How did the narrator detract from the book?

The narrator sounds as if he's reading, no emotion, it just drones on..

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

it does/would provide some "good" information, especially for a new Computer user.

Horrible audio recording

I was not able to listen to this book for more than 2 minutes because every time the narrator says a word containing an 'S', my ears hurt.
All 'S'es are high pitched whistling sounds.
Wish I could get my money back.

I cannot say anything about the story, because I cannot get through this book.

Basic General Information droned out in boring ton

What disappointed you about Hacking?

This book has promisingly interesting information, but the "headache inducing" whistling is very annoying and almost makes this un-listenable.

Would you be willing to try another book from Emily Goldstein? Why or why not?

Possible.

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Jim D Johnston?

Yes, yes, yes. As stated before, the whistling is very annoying.

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

Disappointment.

Record quaility was poor

Any additional comments?

The record quality was very poor and thus there was a hissing on every "s" word that was very annoying and impossible to listen to. I bet the book would have been interesting but couldn't listen to it. I tried multiple speakers and devices with the same issue.

I can't even listen to it

The narrator has a terrible whistle every time he says an "s" sound, and it's unbearable!

You will hate this audiobook

What disappointed you about Hacking?

While the book contains some useful information, its writing and performance are so bad as to render it almost useless. The performer has a tooth whistle that can actually cause headaches if listened to for long. This is totally unbelievable! Second, and more outlandish, the writers have substituted synonyms for the usual terms on a massive scale throughout the book. It is hard to understand why they did this, unless it was some misguided attempt to hide the copying of text from elsewhere. Otherwise, it simply makes everything more difficult. Listening to this is an exercise in figuring out the right synonym, simply to be sure you know what they are talking about.

What could Emily Goldstein have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

So many things are wrong with this book! First of all, she (if this is a real name) could have not substituted the weird synonyms. Second, a lot of the material is repetitious, and a lot is extraneous. Also, she could have not claimed that this is a book for beginners. I can't imagine how someone without some knowledge of the field already could get anything out of the book.

Would you be willing to try another one of Jim D Johnston’s performances?

No. Never. His monotonous style would be bad enough, even without the tooth whistle. I really don't understand how Audible accepted this performance. Perhaps there is no quality control.

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

If you can stand the obnoxious presentation, there is actually some useful information for those attempting to hack or protect systems. It's already getting dated, however. Also, there's really not much here that can't be found elsewhere, in much more accessible form.

Any additional comments?

This is a great book for masochists. This is the worst book I have ever encountered on Audible. Audible ought to listen to this and determine whether they want to continue to offer it.

Snap Crackle Whistle

This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?

I wanted to listen to this content but every "S" is an ear piercing whistle. It is PAINFUL to listen to this book. The narrator did not read well. Multiple edits to fill in lines where apparent through out the audio presentation. I also felt that the reader didn't have any understanding of the content they where sharing. Acronyms were forced and you could just tell from inflection during highly technical componants the reader had no idea what they where reading.

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Jim D Johnston?

anyone

If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Hacking?

the Whistling

Better if Synced

Would you try another book from Emily Goldstein and/or Jim D Johnston?

Yes, but not in Audiobook format.

What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?

The advise on how to start learning to Hack computer networks.

Would you listen to another book narrated by Jim D Johnston?

Yes, but not one so step by step Linix command prompt intensive. Hearing command lines read can not be made interesting.

If this book were a movie would you go see it?

No way, no how

Any additional comments?

I think this is just one of those books you have to be able to see the text to get the full value from it. If you try to follow the command prompt entries from audio only. you'll be rewinding, and guessing as to what the actual syntax is supposed to be.
