INTRODUCTION:
The topic and title of this book were first introduced and selected by the Hon. Commissioner of Digital Economy and Innovations, Taraba State, Nigeria, at the maiden Taraba State Digital for Circular Economy Summit, 2023. And by Divine coincidence, I was chosen to be the guest speaker for the three-day conference, which was slated for December 12th to 14th, 2023.
“NAVIGATING THE CIRCULAR ECONOMY THROUGH DIGITAL INNOVATIONS AND TRANSFORMATION," as a the theme for the summit, as it was being organized by the Ministry of Economy and in partnership with the NATURE-BASED SCIENCE RESEARCH CENTER FOR SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT, TARABA STATE UNIVERSITY JALINGO, has generated so much local, national, and global interest as a much-needed subject of deliberations towards midwifing the gap between the circular and digital economies for the global sustainable development drive. This fact was also confirmed to be highly in consonance with the UN ITU declaration: “DIGITAL PUBLIC INFRASTRUCTURES” in the era of "DECADE OF ACTION “for the UN SDGs and the 2030 Global Agenda.
We have therefore decided to make these resources, as part of the lecture, available to all humanity as our humble contributions towards advancing humanity and planet Earth in terms of sustainable development.
For the world to effectively tackle and handle the challenges of poverty, extreme hunger, social injustices, and climate change, there must be some deliberate injection of new ideas, approaches, and methodologies. And the fastest means of transformation and navigation today, as far as sustainable development is concerned, is digital technology innovation and transformation.
May we at this junction commend the foresight of His Excellency Dr. Agbu Kefas, Executive Governor, Taraba state for creating the Ministry of Digital Economy and Innovations with Hon. Gideon Nonso Mbaso , as the First Commissioner, Ministry of Digit Economy, and the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Sunday Paul Bako for the vision in establishing the Nature Based Science Research Center for Sustainable Development, Taraba State University (TSU), Jalingo for taking the lead and championing this conference on “NAVIGATING THE CIRCULAR ECONOMY THROUGH DIGITAL INNOVATIONS AND TRANSFORMATION as novel approaches to modern development through digital transformation. We sincerely hope that this unique approach, through public and private partnership with the HETAVED SKILLS ACADEMY FOR INNOVATIONS AND ENTREPRENEURSHIP, could be adopted and scaled up by all and sundry at the local, national, regional, and global levels towards achieving sustainable development in Taraba state, Nigeria, Africa, and globally. No doubts, this is a model of 21st century public and private partnership for activating and achieving sustainable development in our world that needed to be scaled up and implemented.
This book and its resources have been simplified and released for the benefit of all mankind. The proceeds from this book shall be wholly committed to the cause of advancing the principles of SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT THROUGH VIA DIGITAL TECH INNOVATIONS TRANSFORMATION for the benefit of mankind and planet earth.
