Didn’t Seem Truly Authentic

I found this audiobook annoying, unfortunately. While I enjoy nonfiction that attempts to be conversational, I think there are better ways to do so than the narrator calling the reader “sis,” “hun,” “girl,” or other “girlfriend” words. Hearing those words so often became tiresome fairly quickly. I also thought the information was too generic, as if it came from sources anybody could get from a quick search on the internet. Though the author shared supposed stories about working with a variety of her friends with their guardian angels and spirit guides, it just didn't come across as truly speaking from the author's experience—rather, it seemed like more what she thinks she should say to readers like us. It didn't feel authentic, in other words. I also feel the book did not remain laser-focused on guardian angels and spirit guides. A lot of other common, popular self-help topics drowned out the spiritual aspect, like a sizeable chunk of the book being about manifestation. The section on affirmations, too, wasn’t as much about guardian angels and spirit guides as I would have hoped. And some of them certainly would not apply to many women based on their life choices and preferences. There are scads of books about angels and spirit guides out there, and I recommend finding a better one.

Conversational tone is tiresome, info is ok

While there are some good tips for improving your life and some meditations to try, I found the conversational tone tiresome and irritating (maybe the author calls people “sis” and “girl irl but in a book it doesn’t translate well.) Also the author mentions OVER AND OVER this book is “for black women,” but I didn’t really hear anything that differentiates this especially for women of color over any other spiritual book. The book is just okay, it’s not terrible but there are better books on the topic without the small annoyances.

It was very very good for me being a beginner but I wanted more and you stated there is a community that i could be apart of but how do I find it?
