No other collection of stories has so vividly haunted the imagination of its readers worldwide, defining what we’ve come to expect from a fairy tale...
This volume of Grimms’ Fairy Tales brings together the classics: Briar Rose (Sleeping Beauty), Rapunzel, Hansel and Gretel, Little Red-Cap (Little Red Riding Hood), Tom Thumb, Rumpelstiltskin, Snow-White and Red-Rose (Snow White), Cinderella, and many, many more...
Jacob (1785–1863) and Wilhelm (1786–1859) Grimm spent their formative years in the town of Hanau, Germany. Both attended the University of Marburg, where they soon developed a curiosity for German folklore. Grimms’ Fairy Tales, originally known as Children’s Stories and Homespun Tales (Kinder- und Hausmärchen), was first published in 1812. The brothers created their anthology as a scholarly investigation of traditional stories, hoping to preserve folktales passed down through generations.
