Savoring the Way of Jesus

With billions of people claiming the mantle of Christianity, one might surmise that the Jesus-Way is well understood by the world. Instead, it often seems that his teachings, the essence of his spirit, are unknown and ignored.

How can we allow ourselves to hear again, and more deeply, the living message that Jesus brings? Perhaps the best way is to sit with the silence, to listen to πνευμα, to let this wind-spirit speak and quicken the words of Jesus.

It also helps to read the gospel again in fresh language. In this book, the reader finds every verse of Matthew set forth in iambic pentameter from a transtheistic perspective. A new meter to the language and a less anthropomorphic view of God help us to focus on what is really going on…what spirit says.

Here's the passage commonly called The Lord’s Prayer:

So pray this way, so simple, calm, and true:
“Our life, our breath, and source of all we share,
Let kindness grow on earth as rivers flow;
Let justice rise as morning fills the sky.
Grant us today the bread our bodies need,
And help us walk in balance with our lives.
Release the harm we’ve done, as we release
The ones who’ve wounded us in thought or deed.
And lead us far from paths that twist to harm,
And help us find the strength to turn from wrong.”

Rendered poetically and transtheistically, we can listen again to Jesus teaching about what prayer might be. We address our life, our breath, our source as we ask to walk in balance with our lives. Prayer is something quite different from and deeper than, the typical invocations we are so often encouraged to make.

In similar fashion, Jesus’ teachings on war, climate, letting go, love, and personal interrelationships are all freshly translated in this Gospel of Matthew Transtheistic.
