Perched like a citadel, Gordes offers panoramic views that bear witness to its past. The village developed from the 11th century around a fortified castle, becoming a true fortress protected by ramparts during the turbulent periods of the Middle Ages. During the Renaissance, the influential Provençal family Simiane d’Agoult left a lasting mark on the village.
